Cricket's three formats and major tournaments

In Bangladesh, cricket is more than a sport — it is a passion. From the streets of Dhaka to the stadiums, cricket is everywhere. From a betting perspective, it is important to understand the three formats separately, because the type of markets and how odds are set differs across each format.

T20 is the fastest format — each innings is completed in 20 overs. Major tournaments like BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup are played in this format. The situation can change from moment to moment, which makes live betting the most intense here.

ODI, or one-day cricket, has two innings of 50 overs each. Bangladesh Tigers' international series and World Cup qualifiers are usually played in this format. Team balance and pitch conditions play a major role here.

Test cricket is a five-day contest. A draw is a possible result here, so a three-way market (team A wins / team B wins / draw) is available, which is not the case in T20 or ODI.

At jelly bdt, alongside these three formats, matches from BPL, IPL, the T20 World Cup and other international series are covered. For more details on betting rules, visit the terms and conditions page.

Football and other sports betting

jelly bdt Football and Multi-Sports Betting

After cricket, football is the most popular sport in Bangladesh. The main difference between football betting and cricket betting is the number of possible outcomes. In football there are three possible results — team A wins, team B wins, or draw — but in T20 or ODI there are usually two outcomes (no draw). This means the odds structure in football is set up slightly differently.

In football, markets are available for the Premier League, La Liga, World Cup qualifiers and international matches. As with cricket, match winner, goal total (over/under) and multi bet are popular here. Football also has special options not found in cricket, such as half-time / full-time markets and goalscorer markets.

Betting on other sports like Kabaddi, tennis, basketball or volleyball offers fewer markets compared to cricket. The method of reading odds is the same in principle — the same decimal, fractional or American format applies everywhere.

Popular betting markets — across all formats

Match Winner

Pick one team directly — will team A or team B win. In Test matches, draw is also available as a third option. A straightforward market, but consider team form and pitch conditions.

All formats

Toss Betting

Bet on which team will win the toss. Winning the toss can significantly change a team's approach — pitch and weather conditions play an important role. This is essentially a 50-50 market.

T20 / ODI / Test

Top Batsman

Predict which player will score the most runs in the match or in a specific innings. You can place bets by analysing the batting lineup and recent performance of the different teams.

T20 / ODI

Total Runs Over/Under

Choose whether the total runs in a match or innings will be above (over) or below (under) a set number — this market gives you two options to pick from. Pitch and bowling strength are key considerations.

T20 / ODI / Test

Multi Bet (multiple selections)

Combine selections from multiple matches or markets together. The odds of each selection are multiplied to produce a larger combined odds — but if any one selection loses, the entire bet is lost.

All formats

Wicket Markets and Man of the Match

How many wickets a specific bowler will take, or who will be Man of the Match — these special markets are found mainly in T20 and ODI and require more attention than a standard match winner market.

Read odds — three formats explained simply

Betting odds can be written in three different formats — decimal, fractional and American. All three express the same probability, just written differently. The examples below are based on a ৳1,000 bet on team A to win.

Format Team A (example) Team B (example) How to read
Decimal 2.50 1.80 Bet × odds = total return (profit + original bet)
Fractional 3/2 4/5 Left number = profit, right number = bet
American +150 −125 + means profit on a ৳100 bet; − means the bet required to make that profit

Example 1 — Team A wins, ৳1,000 bet

Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150 — three ways of writing it, all the same value.

If team A wins: ৳1,000 × 2.50 = ৳2,500 returned (৳1,500 profit + original ৳1,000). If team A loses, ৳1,000 is gone.

Teams and numbers are for illustration only — these are not odds from any real match.

Example 2 — Team B (favourite), ৳1,000 bet

Decimal 1.80 = Fractional 4/5 = American −125.

If team B wins: ৳1,000 × 1.80 = ৳1,800 returned (৳800 profit). American −125 means a ৳1,000 bet is needed to make ৳800 profit.

The favourite has lower odds because they are considered more likely to win; this is not a guarantee of the outcome.

Combined odds in a multi bet — example

Three selections: 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.70 = 3.81 (approximate). A ৳100 bet returns ৳381 if all win. But if any one selection loses, the entire ৳100 is gone — that is the risk of a multi bet.

A multi bet offers a higher return, but every selection must win.

Live in-play betting — odds that move with wickets and overs

Live

Odds change while the match is in progress

In live betting, odds can change after every over, every wicket and even after every ball. When a wicket falls, the odds for the batting team lengthen and the odds for the bowling team shorten.

When a big powerplay score reduces the target, the batting team's odds of winning come down quickly. Conversely, if the batting team needs 20+ runs off the last over, the odds shift in a different way.

Odds move fast in live markets. Odds can change before a bet is accepted — this is normal and happens on every platform.

What markets are available in live betting?

  • Next over runs — an over/under market on how many runs will be scored in the next over.
  • Next wicket — who will take the next wicket or how it will fall.
  • Live match winner update — live odds on which team is ahead in the current situation.
  • End of innings score — an over/under on the total runs at the end of the first innings.
  • Current batsman fifty — whether the batsman currently at the crease will score 50 runs.

The advantage of live betting is that you can make decisions based on how the match is going. Keep in mind that betting is for entertainment — no result is guaranteed.

Some practical tips before you start betting

  • Set a budget first: Decide how much you will bet in each session before you start. Do not go beyond that limit — betting is for entertainment, not a source of income.
  • Understand the odds before betting: Calculate the odds and potential return of the market you are betting on beforehand. The examples above will help you work out the figures for different formats.
  • Focus on one market: Start by gaining experience in one or two markets — such as match winner or total runs only. Betting on too many markets at once leads to confusion.
  • No rushing in live betting: Odds move fast in live markets. Analyse the situation rather than acting under pressure to decide instantly.
  • Follow responsible gaming practices: Read the responsible gaming guide for details on betting limits, breaks and self-exclusion.
  • Be careful with multi bets: Even if the combined odds look attractive, evaluate each selection separately. One wrong selection cancels the entire bet.

Common questions about cricket betting

In T20, results come quickly so live markets are more active and odds change after every over. In ODI, the match is longer so there are more tactical shifts. In Test matches, a draw is a separate result, which means you get a three-way market — in T20 or ODI there are usually only two outcomes.

Yes, both pre-match and live in-play betting are available on BPL matches. In live betting, match winner, next wicket, run totals and more markets are updated after every over. You can also place bets before the match starts.

With decimal odds, bet × odds = total return (profit + original bet). For example, 2.50 means a ৳1,000 bet returns ৳2,500. With fractional odds, only the profit ratio is shown — 3/2 means ৳3 profit on a ৳2 bet, which is the same as decimal 2.50. Most platforms in Bangladesh use the decimal format.

In a multi bet, the combined odds are higher so the potential return increases, but the risk increases too. With three selections at 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.70 = 3.81 odds, a ৳100 bet could return ৳381, but if any one selection loses the entire ৳100 is gone. Betting is for entertainment — no strategy guarantees a profit.

If a match is cancelled or declared a draw, bets are settled according to the betting platform's own rules. Usually bets on incomplete matches are voided and the original amount is refunded, but this depends on the terms of each market and platform. See the terms and conditions for details.
